Description: Epiphytic orchids with rhizomes. Pseudobulbs ovate, 1-leaved at apex. Leaves narrowly oblong, 10-14 cm long and 1.8-2.3 cm wide, apex emarginate, base attenuate; petiole 1.5 cm long. Scape arising from the base of pseudobulb, 5 cm long. Umbel 1-3-flowered. Flowers yellowish, dorsal sepal oblong, 1.5 cm long, margin thickly red-ciliate; petals purple, oblong, about 1 cm long, entire; lip initially olive green, later became orange, ovate, joined at base to column-foot, mobile, column-wing extended ahead into 2 deltate arms.
Distribution: Endemic to Hong Kong, only known from Tai Mo Shan.
Habitat and Ecology: On rocks in valleys and other shaded and wet places. Flowering: May.
First discovered in Hong Kong in 1830, this orchid species has potential as an ornamental plant. The localities of its occurrence are in Country Parks under protection. This species is also protected by the Forestry Regulations (Cap. 96 sub. leg.) and the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance (Cap. 586).
