Description: Small trees, 4-5 m tall, glabrous throughout. Leaves thickly leathery, broadly elliptic, 8-11 cm long, 4-6.5 cm wide, apex acute, base broadly cuneate, entire, with reddish brown glandular dots on abaxial surface; petiole broad and flat, 1.5-2 cm long. Flowers 1-2 in leaf axils, pedicels 1 cm long, stout; bracts broadly ovate, 4-5 mm long; sepals 5, elliptic-ovate, 7-8 mm long, apex rounded; petals 5, 8-10 mm long, base connate; stamens numerous, 5-7 mm long. Fruit oblate, 1.7 cm in diameter, base with persistent bracts and sepals.
Distribution: Restricted to Ping Fung Shan. Guangxi, Guangdong, Jiangxi; Vietnam.
Habitat and ecology: In mountain forest. Flowering; May-Jun.; fruiting: Oct.-Nov.
Much branched and with dark green leaves, the plant can be used as an ornamental for growth in shade. In Hong Kong, the locality of its occurrence is in Country Parks under protection.
